30 fishermen have been arrested for fishing in the Meghna river in Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur, they will be fined 11 lakh 50 thousand taka through mobile court on Wednesday (March 20).
The mobile court was conducted by Upazila Assistant Commissioner Land and Executive Magistrate Shamsuddin Md. Reza.
In the operation, 2.25 lakh meters of illegal current nets and 25 kg of jatka hilsa were seized. The nets were destroyed in the fire. Later, the fishes were distributed among the local orphanages and the poor.
Kamalnagar Upazila Fisheries Officer Abdul Quddus said that the Hilsa Avashram area of Meghna River adjacent to Matabbar Hat of Wednesday Upazila has conducted a joint operation of the Department of Fisheries and Coast Guard.
When 30 fishermen were arrested and handed over to the mobile court for fishing in the river in violation of the ban, the court fined 11 lakh 50 thousand taka under the Fisheries Conservation Act.
It should be noted that Jatka hilsa protection is from Alexander of Ramgatti in Lakshmipur to Chandpur The Department of Fisheries has declared 100 km area of Meghna river up to Shatnal as a hilsa shelter and all types of fishing in the shelters have been banned in the two months of March and April.
