JAB Representative:

Senate member Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan has demanded that the proposal to consider the nomination of two members from the Senate to the Syndicate in the next annual meeting of the Senate of Jahangirnagar University (JABI) is included in the agenda.

He made this demand in an application to the registrar and senate secretary Abu Hasan on Wednesday (January 17) morning.

In the application, he mentioned that the Jahangirnagar University Act 1973 for the management of Jahangirnagar University has guidelines for everything from Senate, Syndicate to University management. The chief executive body of the university is the ‘syndicate‘. The scope of responsibility and power of the syndicate is wider than other bodies. It is desirable to ensure the representation of the syndicate in accordance with the constitution-reference to the structure of the law for the management of the university in a fair and effective manner.

Citing section 1973 of the Jahangirnagar University Act, he said, Section 22(f) of the Act is required to be in the Syndicate of 2 (two) representatives of the Senate. According to Section 22(3) of the Act, a member of the Syndicate is 2 years but they can serve until the next representative comes.

In the application form, he also mentioned, ‘The normal period of the representatives nominated by the Senate in the current syndicate of the university has passed long ago. Meanwhile, there have been changes and changes in Senate members of various categories including teacher representatives, registered graduate representatives. As the syndicate is an important body, only after the expiry of the term should be given the opportunity to send their representatives to the syndicate of members in a democratic way.

Barrister Shihab expressed his anger in the application and said that since the election of the Senate's registered graduate category held on December 30, 2017, the Senate has not accepted any process of nomination of the Senate since he was elected in the Senate category, which is undesirable.

Regarding the demand of Senate member Barrister Shihab Uddin, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Moe the . ‘I will take action in this matter for the syndicate, but we would have taken action to get two syndicates nominated by the Senate very quickly,’ Nurul Alam told us. This action will be taken very soon.’
