Bird Fair-2024 is going to be held for the 22nd time in Jahangirnagar University to increase public awareness in bird conservation.
The fair will be held on Friday (January 19) at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium premises organized by the Department of Zoology of the University.
The fair will have various competitions and programs, including: Inter-University Bird Watching Competition, Bird Photography, Bird Drawing Competition for Children and Teens, Bird Observation of Children and Teens with Telescopes and Binoculars, Inter-University Bird Recognition Competition and Open Bird Quiz Competition for all.
Big Bird Bangladesh Award, Scientific Publication Award, Conservation Media Award and Special Recognition Award will be given for contributing to bird conservation and awareness raising.
Incidentally, the first bird fair was started in Jahangirnagar University in 2000. Since 2004, the Department of Zoology of the University has been directly involved in the organization of the fair.
In this fair, students are encouraged to make common people aware of the importance of bird conservation as well as students interested in bird watching.
Kamrul Hasan, convenor of the organizing committee of the fair and professor of zoology department of the university, said, “Tomorrow's bird fair preparation is quite complete. 10 students from Chittagong University have already come to participate in the bird fair in the inter-university competition, besides, we hope that the contestants will come from Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Sherbangla Agricultural University on time. We can see a lot of interest in the painting competition of birds and children and teenagers. We are expecting to complete a proper arrangement in the beautiful weather tomorrow.”
Wildlife Rescue Center, Bangladesh Bird Club, Aranyak Foundation, Nature and Life Foundation, Bangladesh Zoology Association, International Nature and Natural Resources Conservation Association (IUCN) and Bangladesh Forest Department are assisting in organizing the fair.
