in the land of The Election Commission held an emergency meeting following the 18-point directives of the government to reach the alarming level of coronavirus infection.

The meeting was held on Monday afternoon in an unscheduled meeting led by the Chief Election Commissioner and the current situation in the meeting was discussed.

EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said, ‘The election will be held on March 31; these elections will be held on April 11. However, the UP, Municipal and Parliament by-elections are held on April 11. The decision will be announced after the commission meeting on April 1, but the decision will be held in an unscheduled meeting on this issue.’

In the first phase, the candidates for by-election of 371 UP, 11 municipalities in the sixth phase and by-election of 64 upazilas of 19 districts are now campaigning.

Today, Monday, the government has issued 18-point instructions including limiting all kinds of public gatherings in all areas including social, political and religious.
All types of crowds (social/political/religious/religious/other) should be limited. All types of public gatherings will be prohibited in the area of high transmission. Public gatherings should be discouraged on the occasion of any social event including birthdays/birthdays. All educational institutions (pre-primary, primary, madrasah, secondary, higher secondary, higher secondary, university, university, university) and coaching center will be closed.

When asked if there is a discussion on the issue of postponing the vote in the overall situation, the additional secretary of the EC said, “After the 18-point directive, the commission has held some policy decisions today. There will be some policy decisions on Wednesday. But on the 11th April, the official commission meeting on April 11 has been held, there will be a final decision after the decision will be made there."

The EC has suspended the vote in the next 90 days amid the constitutional obligation of the parliamentary seat by the parliamentary seat last year after the start of the coronavirus infection. The situation has been normalized since November.
