Own Correspondent: The former Constituent Assembly member and national member of Parliament Sirajul Islam has been buried in the state honor of the then No'takhali-12 (Hati-Ramgati) constituency. The veteran Awami League leader was one of the organizers of the liberation war.
He was buried in the family graveyard after the funeral at Char Lawrence High School ground in Kamalnagar Upazila of Laxmipur on Friday (August 30) afternoon.
He passed away on Thursday (August 29) night, and at the time of his death, he was left behind for 85 years, leaving behind a large number of benefactors including his wife, son, son, relatives.
The funeral was attended by Laxmipur-3 (Sadar) Member of Parliament AKM Shahjahan Kamal, District Awtami League President Golam Farooq Pinku, former President M Alauddin, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman AKM Salah Uddin Tipu, Upazila Parishad Chairman Mejbah Uddin Ahmed Bappi Ramgati Upazila Parishad Chairman Sharaf Uddin Azad, Ramgati Upazila Awami League General Secretary Professor Abdul and Com-Urban. Imtiaz Hossain, officer in charge of Kamalnagar police station. Iqbal Hossain, Kamalnagar Upazila Aomi League President AKM Nurul Amin, General Secretary Nurul Amin Raju, Kamalnagar Press Club President Sajjadur Rahman, BMGTA Laxmipur Branch Organizing Secretary Md. Otazi Ullah Jutull and others.
Jatid Hossain Faruqi, Principal of Hazirhat Degree Madrasa, led the funeral prayers.
It is to be noted that Sirajul Islam was elected as the candidate of Awami League in the 1973 parliamentary elections in Hatita-Ramgati seat. Before that, he was elected as a member of the Pakistan National Gana Parishad (MNA) from the same area in the 1970 general election.
