‘If there is consensus, the next political government will not be able to change or cancel these reforms easily. There is no alternative to reform for us.’
He said these things in the dialogue organized by the Center for Governance Studies at Sirdap Auditorium in the capital on Monday (December 23).
He also said that the chief advisor of the interim government and the head of the reform commission has given verbal consent to the implementation of reforms on the question of national consensus.
Dr. Asif Nazrul said, ‘Bangladesh's higher judiciary has been given powers that Sheikh Hasina's fascist government has been used to keep in power. Their authority has been used to consolidate their authority. Many were detained for a long time without being found guilty and the bail applications were often rejected.’
He said, ‘In the country if If there was a fair election every five years and the elected party had formed the government, then the ruling party would not have been so despotic using the judiciary.’
Stating that the judicial appointment has been made in the High Court on the basis of political affiliation, the advisor said, ‘Based on three reform proposals, the process of appointing judges in the high court will be finalized.’
Advocate Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal, said, ‘The picture of Justice AHM Shassuddin Chowdhury Manik's Kalapata should be kept behind all the judges. Then it will be understood, how should the behavior of the judges be?
