19.2 percent of the country's population is living below the poverty line, that is, one in five people, who are below the poverty line, in this country. In the Barisal division, the most 26.6 percent of the poorest people live in the Barisal division while the poorest people live in Chittagong division.
The division is home to 15.2 percent of the poor, with the highest number of people in Dasar upazila of Madaripur district, 63.2 percent of the people are below the poverty line and the richest area is Paltan of Dhaka.
The report titled ‘Bangladesh Poverty Map 2022’ at the BICC conference room in the capital yesterday. Poverty and Livelihood Statistics Cell has produced the report.
A joint research by the World Bank, World Food Organization and BBS has emerged.
The report also said that 19.2 percent of the country's people are living below the poverty line, while the poverty rate in the city is 16 percent, but it is more than 20 percent in the village, but the poverty rate was 18.7 percent according to the BBS ‘Khana A and Bat Survey 2022’.
On the other hand, the poverty rate of Dhaka is 19.6 percent above 1.8 percent, but the poverty rate is higher in villages compared to the city.
The report revealed that the poorest people living in Barisal are in the country, 28.1 percent of those living in Barisal and 21.7 percent of those living in the city are poor in Chittagong, the rate is 9.9 percent in villages and 17.8 percent in the city.
After Barisal, the poorest people in the Mamansingh division are 24.2 percent. And the poorest of Madaripur district as the district, 54.4 percent. And the least poor is the poor No.Chali district, 6.1 percent. And as the upazila, 63.2 percent of the poor in Madaripur Dasar has decreased in the poverty of Rajshahi and Matripur.
