Dhaka: Government revenue and Bangladesh Telecommunication Control Commission (BTRC) has planned to stop illegal mobile handsets from next July to ensure the security of mobile phone customers' handsets.
BTRC officials say that this process will be stopped and fake mobile handsets will be stopped.
However, mobile sets bought from abroad or received as gifts will be given an opportunity to register.
On Tuesday (June 1), several BTRC officials told BanglaNews that it is being implemented with the aim of ensuring national security and discouraging the sale, import and marketing of illegal and fake mobile handsets.
The official also said that the sets of the same IMEI number will be continued till a certain time. Then the government's instructions will be taken and the BTRC system will be verified and started by verification in the BTRC system.
BTRC signed an agreement with Cinesis IT, a domestic IT service provider, on November 25 last year to prevent the use of illegal handsets.
A BTRC official said that before August 1, 2019, used in various mobile operators' networks and after August 1, 2019, imported legal channels and in the country. All mobile phone handset information produced or added locally is stored in BTRC. Apart from this, all the illegal sets or handsets brought from abroad are seen in the valid documents of the next and run with permission from BTRC. But the same person will not be accepted as a gift again and again.
The BTRC official said they have information about 12-13 crore mobile phone IMEI numbers, which is expected to be operational on the same 6-7 crore mobiles because more than one SIM is used in the same set.

In view of the application of the Handset customer from abroad, the receipt of purchase through the Otb Portal of NEIR is subject to verification and the sets which have come to the country as gifts, will be activated in the NEIR subject to verification on the basis of sufficient evidence.
According to BTRC, if the NEIR system is completed, the government will get a revenue of 4000 crore rupees every year.
