In Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur, a human chain has been formed to protest the stoppage of dam construction including geo bag dumping protection of Meghna river.
On Monday (April 11) at noon in the Ludhuta Bazar area of Charfalkan Uni of the upazila, the locals staged this under the banner of the unstable people.
Locals have demanded that the construction work of Ramgati and Kamalnagar Meghna Tire Raksha Dam be implemented quickly before the monsoon.
Local residents Nurul Islam Master, journalist Sajjadur Rahman, Awtami Log leader Mostafiz Howladar, Jahangir Talukdar, Abu Siddique, Sirajul Islam, Abdul Karim and Rakib Hossain Lotus and others were present in the human chain.
The speakers said that although the army has demanded that the river bank protection dam project is implemented, the work will be launched through the contractor, but the contractor has kept the work. The river continued to erupt during the dry season. If the construction work is not implemented quickly, the construction work will be lost from the map of Kamalnagar.
At the end of the human chain, the locals gave a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
In the context, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved a project of Tk 31,000 crore for the protection of the banks of Ramgati and Kamalnagar Meghna rivers in June last June. For that purpose, the construction work of Meghna river area of Saheber Hat Unitan of Saheber Kamalnagar through tender was inaugurated by Minister of State for Water Resources Colonel (retd) Zahid Farooq, but the opening day did not show any work here.
