Smug Sweater factory workers have blocked the highway in Telipara area of Gazipur city demanding an increase in Eid bonus, which has stopped traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
On Friday (March 14) the workers started agitation from 10 am, and members of the law enforcement forces are working at the scene to control the situation.
According to the police and local sources, the workers of Ismox sweater factory in Telipara area started protesting for various demands including Eid bonus at 8 am today, they protested and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Many are trying to reach their destination on foot or by alternative means.

The workers said that the factory authorities are making a fuss about the Eid bonus, but they are protesting against the announcement of the Eid bonus of Rs 800. They are protesting against the announcement of the owner's side, they have made 14-point demands including half of the basic salary, Eid bonus, night lounges, maternity leave.
Kausar Ahmed, OC of Gazipur Metropolitan Basan police station, said that the workers have been given salary and bonuses on time as the government has fixed and yet the workers are protesting since morning demanding more bonuses.
