Ashraful Hossain Alam alias Hirea Alam has been an independent candidate in the by-election of Dhaka-17 seat. The supporting list of 1 percent voters is not found by the candidate.
An independent candidate should submit a list with a nomination paper with the signature of 1 percent of the voters in the constituency to participate in the parliamentary elections. If there are members of Parliament in the past, the provision will not be applicable.
Hira Alam appealed to the Election Commission on June 20 against the decision of the returning officer.
On that day, Hero Alam said, the commission gave the same decision that the returning officer gave, but they did not find out even if my voters were right, but I did not get it even after appealing twice. This time, Dhaka will not get the candidature back, but if I don't get it here, I will definitely go to the High Court.
In the general election of 2018 and at the beginning of this year, the nomination papers of Hero Alam were canceled due to the signing complications of one percent of the voters in the by-election of Bogra-6 (Sadar) seat. Later, he regained his candidacy twice on the orders of the High Court.
This time he did not have to go to court again, after the hearing on Thursday, the Election Commission granted his appeal.
After this decision, Hero Alam said, "Since I have received a fair trial today, I hope that there will be a fair election. If the election is fair, the country will be fair. In the next election, confidence will be restored in the EC, which will not be a fair election.
He said, "I know that the people of the country will hope for my election, you vote, don't, come to the center. I have more confidence in the ballot. Since I voted before, I have no confidence in EVMs," he said.
