Ramganj upazila of Laxmipur has been accused of openly occupying the government canal and building illegal bridges in the dark of night. Locals have complained that the canal has been occupied by the main means of drainage of the local residents and the construction of buildings on private areas.
According to the local sources and the commentaries of the victims, a person named Zafar is going to carry out the construction of the bridge over the canal with any kind of government approval, design or environmental certificate. During the construction work, there is no question of any effective action taken by the administration.

Residents complain that the construction of illegal bridges is seriously disrupting the normal water flow of the canal. When asked about this, Ramganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farashid Bin Enam said, “Official canal encroachment or construction of illegal structures is against the law. The allegations will be investigated and action will be taken against the Dadtis."
Ramganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Geetaul Haque said that encroachment of canals or water bodies is a serious crime. If the investigation proves that the investigation proves that legal action will be taken including the eviction of illegal structures.
