Russia has sought the cooperation of Bangladesh's chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus, which continues the gas exploration activities of the Russian state-owned company Gazprom International.
On Tuesday (March 11), Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander G. Khojin made this request while meeting with the Chief Advisor at the State Guest House in Dhaka.
He said that since 2012, Gazprom International has been working on gas reserves in Bangladesh and in 2023, Bhola identified five new wells, where there are plans to further explore.

During his meeting, the ambassador discussed various issues including trade and general cooperation, he mentioned that in 2024, Russia's wheat supply reached the highest level in Bangladesh, which made Bangladesh the second largest wheat importer of Russia after Egypt.
He also said that between July 2024 and January 2025, 2.3 million tons of Russian wheat came to Bangladesh, of which 6.23 lakh tons came through the agreement of the government level (G2G).
The ambassador also informed about the preparation of supplying 30 thousand tons of MOP fertilizer to Bangladesh as a sign of friendship in Russia.
Alexander G. mentioned that the number of Russian visas for Bangladeshi citizens has increased significantly. Khojin said many Bangladeshis are choosing Russia as a new employment destination in the agriculture and shipbuilding sector, and the number of visas issued in January-March 2025 has increased four times compared to the same period of the previous year, he said.
On the other hand, the Chief Adviser thanked Russia for supporting Bangladesh in the critical period after the Liberation War.
