Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that there will be no compromise to make the upcoming national parliamentary elections acceptable.
The European Union (EU) delegation came to meet with the commission at the election building in Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday (January 28). He said this to reporters after the meeting.
AMM Nasir Uddin said, "European Unit has assured all kinds of support in the democratic journey elections and all kinds of preparations will be made to make the next election fair. The independence of the EC is being eroded by us.
He said the EU has given importance to reforms to keep the independence of the Election Commission intact. The EU considers the reforms to be less.
"We want reforms, but it will not be acceptable to any reform that will be in conflict with the Constitution and that the independence of the Election Commission will be undermined," he added.
Meanwhile, EU Ambassador Michael Miller said, "We want the democratic trend to continue in Bangladesh and the European Union will support Bangladesh in a neutral and international standard."
