From Tuesday (March 7, 2023), the 178-year-old traditional Chengni Mela is starting in Gopalbai Chengni village of Langua Uniton in Kalmakanda Upazila of Netrakona.
The fair is held every year on the occasion of Dolpuja in the Hajong community.
The shopkeepers of different areas have arranged various items in small shrines in different areas, children, teenagers and women from different areas of Netrakona and Sunamganj come back to buy their favorite items.
Binappuja Committee President of Gopalbai Chengni Village Binট Chandra Hajong said, every year we perform dolpuja in the temple, the kirtan dal performs churtan in the temple premises, pray to the temple and distribute prasad among the devotees, our own volunteer team will also be engaged in the administration of the law and order.
Md Siddiqur Rahman, president of Lenguja Unit Aomi League, said that the fair will be maintained by the police and BGB Motaten, we will also be active in protecting the fair and orderly environment from each position. Member of Parliament of Netrakona 1 Constituency will inaugurate the fair on Tuesday.
