Today 17 April is the historic Mujibnagar Day. A unique day in the history of Bangladesh's freedom struggle and liberation war.
During the liberation war in 1971, the first temporal government of independent Bangladesh was officially sworn in at Amrakanan in Baidyanathtala village in Meherpur. Later this Baidyanathtala was named as Mujibnagar.
Bangladesh became independent on December 16, 1971 through the successful leadership of the Mujibnagar government under the 9-month armed liberation war.
Various political and social organizations including the Aomi League have taken detailed programs to observe the historic Mujibnagar Day with due dignity. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave messages on the occasion of the day.
In the message, the President said. Abdul Hamid said, April 17 is a memorial day for the long journey of Bengali freedom struggle.
He extended his sincere greetings and congratulations to the countrymen and Bangladeshis staying abroad on the occasion of the day.
