The MP of Laxmipur-2 Constituency, who has been sentenced in Quat, has been declared vacant for MP Kazi Shahid Islam Papul, who has announced this announcement on Monday.
On January 28, Papul was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Tk 53 crore 19 lakh 62 thousand, and the Kuwaiti criminal court gave this verdict.
Papul was arrested by Kuwaiti police from his residence there on June 6 last year on charges of money and human trafficking. He became an independent candidate from Laxmipur-2 seat in the 2018 election. After becoming an MP, he brought his wife as MP in the quota of an independent MP.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has also filed a case against Kazi Shahid Islam Papul and his wife in Bangladesh.
After the sentence in January, a whip of the Bangladesh National Parliament, Awami League, said that the parliament authorities will take the initiative to formally dismiss his MP's post if he receives information about the sentence.
