The state minister gave this information to reporters after the policy-making meeting on the intrusion of two foreign ships in the maritime boundary of Bangladesh in the secretariat on Sunday.
The Minister of State for Fisheries said, ‘Hilsha fishing will be banned for 22 days from October 9 to the same time as Ashwini Purnima. We will provide food assistance to the fishermen in the rivers where hilsa fish can be found.’
He said, ‘Hilsha transportation, storage or sale will also be completely stopped in the prohibited period.’
Last year the ban was from October 7 to 28. According to the Fish Protection and Conservation Fish Rules of 1985 (Protection and Conservation Fish Rules, 1985), catching hilsa is prohibited every year. The protection and conservation fish rules have been amended to 22 days in 2016.
In addition to catching and selling hilsa on October 9 to 31, supply and stocking will be prohibited. If this order is disobeyed, it will be punishable by rigorous imprisonment for a maximum of two years or a fine of up to five thousand rupees or a fine of five thousand rupees.
On the basis of lunar months, this year, the first moon day of the month of Ashwin month and 17 days before and the next 17 days will be stopped for a total of 22 days.
In the prohibited period, the government has to raid fish ghats, fishing, fish, markets and markets. In this case, the government has rice in the category of VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding).
