Dr Tofatael Ahmed said, ‘In the previous city elections, all the lights have been on the metro, the same situation is in the other local governments. In India's West Bengal, the local government is not directly elected as a metro, the chairman, and the election of the position of councilors and members. They formed the executive committee in the council. We want to create such a system. Then the election will be very rough and equal, the man will not be too much manpower.
I have seen a calculation that the local elections made by the last election commission cost 23 thousand crore rupees. It took 19 to 2 million people. So if the local election is equal to 225 days, it took 225 days. If we come to the parliament system, then the elections of union, municipal and city corporation will be done in the same system. The cost will come down to 600 crore rupees. It will take 8 lakh people. It will take 45 days to go to this system.’
When asked about the thinking of the local government representatives and MPs to reform the power balance, he said, the work of the local government is not within the power of the members of the parliament. The work of the members of the parliament is to bring the work of the national government accountable.
