Three ministers and an advisor of the government have sat in a meeting with the editorial board under the Digital Security Act. The meeting started at 12 o'clock on Sunday (September 30) at the conference room of the Ministry of Information.
Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar and Prime Minister's Information Affairs Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury are present in the meeting.
On the other hand, News Today's Riztaz Uddin Ahmed, Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman, Daily Star's Mahfuz Anam, Yugantar's Saiful Alam, New Age's Nurul Kabir, Manabzamin's Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Kaler Kantha's Imdadul Haque Milan, Sangbad's Khandkar Moniruzzaman, Bangladesh Pratidin Naeem Nizam, Inkilab's AMM Bahauddin and Banik Barar's Deoan Hanif Mahmud are among the editors.
A meeting will be held with Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union (BFUJ) and Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ) at 3 pm.
The government delegation will then meet with the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and the popular Digital Security Bill was passed in the Parliament on Wednesday (September 19).
Although journalists have objected to various sections of this Act, it has not been taken into account, but rather the addition of the controversial Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act to the Digital Security Act and the addition of the 32nd section of the Colonial period ‘Official Secrets Act-1923’ has created new concern among the media.
Meanwhile, after the passing of this law, all the organizations of journalists including the editorial board have been opposing it.
At the same time, the editorial board announced the human chain program in front of the 29th September at 11 am in a statement after the meeting held on September 22.
