In order to preserve jatka and increase the production of hilsa, from next Saturday (March 1) to Wednesday (April 30) midnight, all kinds of fishing and fishing bans have been issued in the Meghna river of Lakshmipur.
At the same time, the Department of Fisheries has announced a ban on hilsa fish crunch, sale, transport and stockpiling during the ban. During the ban, the fishermen will be given food support during the ban.
From Alexander of Ramgati in Lakshmipur to Chandpur, declared as a hilsa shelter 30 fish ghats from Char Alexander to Hajimara in Rakhpur and the ice mills around these areas will also be closed during the ban.
During the ban, various awareness campaigns including miking, leaflets and posters have been conducted in the coastal areas of the river, including miking, leaflets and posters, not to catch fish in the shelter.
In addition, a task force has been formed in collaboration with the law enforcement agencies to prevent fishermen from fishing.
According to Laxmipur District Fisheries Office and fishermen, this district has 52,000 fishermen, among them, about 43,000 fishermen are registered, all of them make a living by fishing in the Meghna river.
Laxmipur District Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Sarkar said, this time, 2,300 tons of VGF rice has been allocated for fishermen. 80 kg of VGF rice will be available and instructed to distribute rice among fishermen.
He said that strict action will be taken if the ban is violated, while there will be legal action if any uninterested in the rice of VGF.
Laxmipur District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Billal Hossain said that the district administration and district fisheries department have continued all kinds of campaigns including miking and postering in rivers and suburbs to make fishermen aware of jatka conservation.
To implement the ban, the river will be conducted in a daily operation in the river fishing department, upazila-district administration, police and coast guards, and if the law is violated, the jail will be brought to the purview of fines.
