The police have arrested a leader of the volunteer group and a youth party leader of the attack on Azizur Rahman Bachchu Molla, father of Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuz Alam, No. 4 of Ichapur Unit No. 4 of Ramganj Upazila of Laxmipur, and the organizational secretary of the United BNP.
They were arrested from Purbachal area of Kaliganj police station in Gazipur district on Wednesday night, the arrested persons are the president of Ichapur Union Volunteer Party candidate Sagar Hossain Sukkur (34) and Juba Dal general secretary candidate Abdul Quader. Sagar Hossain Shukkur is the son of Ali Hossain of Sondja village of Ichapur Uni, and Abdul Kader is the son of Abdul Kader, the same village.
It is known that on the night of March 30, District Chhatra League vice-president Mehedi Hasan Manju came to his village Naratanpur Molla Baa after a long time. The party workers led by leader Shukkur and Jubo Dal leader Quader led him and threw bricks and stones.
According to locals, Mehdi Hasan Manju created panic in the area during his graduation and attacked pro-BNP-Jamaat pro-Jamaat activists several times. He is also accused of being one of the accused in a murder case of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila on August 4.
On April 1, Central BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, District BNP Member Secretary Sahab Uddin Sabu, Ramganj Upazila BNP Convener Mozammel Haque Mazu and LDP Secretary General Shahadat Hossain Salim went to Naratanpur to inquire about him.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramganj police station Mohammad Abul Bashar said, after the incident, the accused were arrested from Purbachal area of Kaliganj police station in Gazipur based on secret information and were being brought to police custody and brought to the police station.
