Kamrul Hridat: The journalists working in Lakshmipur held a human chain program against the case filed against four journalists including the editor of Dainik Amar Desh newspaper, Mahmudur Rahman, as a schematic.
The hour-long program was held in front of the Laxmipur Press Club on Tuesday (April 22) at 12 noon. Journalists from various print, electronic and online media in the district participated in this program under the banner of Laxmipur district branch under the banner of ‘Amar Desh Pathak Mela’.
The human chain was conducted by Laxmipur district representative of Amar Desh newspaper Rajiv Hossain Raju, former vice president of Laxmipur Press Club Gazi Gitas Uddin, general secretary Saidul Islam Pabel, joint general secretary Mir Farhad Hossain Sumon, former joint secretary Saiful Islam Swapan, office secretary Shaker Mohammad Russell and vice-principal of National Idental School and College Habibur Rahman Sabuj.
The speakers said that Mahmudur Rahman is a brave and investigative journalist and there are repeated attempts to file a conspiracy against him. The speakers alleged that a gang is threatening the freedom of the media by filing a case against journalists. They said, “Journalism is not a crime. Rather, it is a real crime to suppress the case in filing the case.”
Laxmipur Press Club Executive Committee Member Rabiul Islam Khan, Rakib Hossain Roni, Rezaul Karim Sumon, Palash Saha, Hasan Mahmud Shakeel, Amar Desh Kamalnagar representative Amjad Hossain, Rakpur representative Zakir Hossain, Bijat TV representative Sohail Mahmud Milan, Bangla News Nizam Uddin, Bangla News's Dalim Kumar Das Titu and Destiny representative Nazir Ahmed were also present in the human chain.
The journalist leaders demanded immediate withdrawal of the case and the implementation of the Journalist Protection Act, they said, “We will unitely resist any attempt to suppress the voice of the media.”
