Today is the Great Ekushey February, the Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day. On this day in 1952, the streets of Dhaka were stained with the blood of young students demanding the mother tongue of Bengal. The struggle and self-sacrifice of the Bengali nation is unforgettable in the history of the world.
Today, Bangla has held the seat of dignity. Bangladesh has achieved the status of international mother tongue in the border of Bangladesh. Since 2000, Ekushey February has been celebrated as International Mother Language Day. But the day is known as Martyr's Day in Bangladesh.
This time, in a new atmosphere, the martyrs of their lives in the language movement, including Bangladesh free from autocracy, will be remembered with respect on Thursday (February 21).
On the occasion of the day, President Md. Sahabuddin and chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and leaders of various political parties gave separate messages.
Earlier, on February 21, 1952, the Sangbad Sangram Parishad also issued a separate program for the call for a hartal to demand Bengali as the national language.
On February 21, the program of the student assembly was held on 21 February, but it was not decided that the students were to break the clause 1444, but the next day, many students decided to break the clauses of the students present at the 21st February DU Amtala rally.
The police opened fire on the premises of Dhaka University, which was samsing the students in the medical college area at around 3:00 pm, and the students got angry at 4 pm, and the protesters were shot dead by the police at the premises of the 4th Medical College Hostel.
Today, every educational institution of the country, every Shaheed Minar will be paid tribute to the language martyrs. The language martyrs will be filled with flowers. The people of the capital will rush to Dhaka Central Shaheed Minar to pay their respects to the language martyrs.
From all the streets of Dhaka, people of all classes and professions will run to the central Shaheed Minar adjacent to Dhaka Medical College with flowers in their hands.
Today is a public holiday, like every year, Ekushey February has been taken up by the government to celebrate the honor of ‘Martyr's Day and International Mother Language Day’.
The program includes the national flags will be kept at half-mast in the right building, correct color and size in the buildings of all educational institutions of the country and government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutions.
