Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked why the government of Pakistan had jailed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman if Bangabandhu did not contribute to the language movement and said that there has been an attempt to erase Bangabandhu from history after 75.
He said this at the ‘Ekushey Padak-2023’ awarding ceremony at Osmani Smriti Milnattan in the capital on Monday (February 20).
Highlighting Bangabandhu's contribution to the language movement, he said, his (Bangabandhu) contribution to the language movement was tried to be erased, but many wise people, I don't want to name it, I know everyone, many people have said what contribution he had again, he was in jail.
Sheikh Hasina also said that because Bangabandhu was in jail, he had no contribution, so he was in jail, why did he go to do this language movement and he was in jail (being imprisoned).
The Prime Minister said that the movement for the rights of our language mother tongue was started by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali father of the nation, and the language struggle council was formed under his initiative and the movement for our language started in 1948. And our freedom along the path of language movement.
Pakistan Intelligence Report mentions that Bangabandhu's contribution to the language movement was mentioned, Sheikh Hasina said, "I gave a speech after receiving the intelligence report. Then a learned man wrote me a very critically written article that I am making it all up."
"We as Bengalis will go to the world court with our heads held high, we have got this country and we will take this country forward and we will take it further on the path of development."
Respecting the martyrs of the language movement, the Prime Minister said, February 21 is our mother tongue day, not only us, it is now International Mother Language Day.
In recognition of his important contributions in various fields this year, the government has awarded Ekushey Padak-2023 to 19 eminent persons and two institutions. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the Ekushey Padak to the meritorious people.
The event was presided over by State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid and the Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain.
