The court sentenced Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed Karim to 3 years in prison in the case of acquiring wealth of known and non-existent assets of Tk 1 crore 69 lakh.
In the presence of Saheed Karim, Judge Pradeep Kumar Roy of Dhaka Special Judge Court-7 gave the sentence on Monday. At the same time, the judge directed the concerned authorities to confiscate the illegally acquired Tk 1 crore 69 lakh in favor of the state. Before that, the state party and the accused finished their arguments and recorded the statement of 12 witnesses of the prosecution including the court case complainant.
On April 17 last year, the court framed a charge against Shahed.
