Hon'ble Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak has agreed to strengthen the tobacco control law.
A delegation of Nari Maitri met Jahangir Kabir Nanak in his office on Sunday, Shaheen Akhtar Dolly, Executive Director of Women Maitri, Nashrin Akhtar, Coordinator of Tobacco Control Project, Mehdi Hasan, Advocacy Officer and Media and Communication Officer Alfi Shahreen highlighted the importance and demands of the tobacco control law.
Claims:
*Prohibition of smoking in public places, workplaces and public transport;
* Banning the display of tobacco products at sales centers;
* Tobacco Company's ‘corporate social responsibility’ or banning CSR activities;
* Banning the sale of single sticks or retail slags and unpackages of bidi-cigarettes;
* Ban the import and sale of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products (HTP);
*Pictures Increase in the size of health warnings (increment from 50% to 90%) and tobacco products with plain packaging * Strict rules for packaging
Tobacco Atlas 2018, according to Tobacco Atlas 2018, 161,000 people die prematurely in Bangladesh due to tobacco use disease. That means 442 people die every day. To protect public health and protect lives, the tobacco control law should be strengthened at the earliest, Mannith Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak said that he will be on the side of women's friendship in all anti-tobacco activities.
