Laxmipur: A mobile court has fined 6 fishermen for catching jatka from Meghna river in Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur.
On Wednesday (March 8) at 12 noon Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Masudur Rahman Molla fined 500 taka 500 of 6 jails and fined a total of 3000 taka.
fines s is Ripon Mita, Noor Alam, Didar, Rashed, Zahirul Islam and Yusuf, all of them are residents of Char Kalkini village of the upazila.
Kamalnagar Upazila Fisheries Officer Abdul Quddus said, They were arrested in a joint operation by the Upazila Fisheries Department and Police in various parts of the Meghna River's Batirghat area from 3:00 PM on Wednesday (March 7) to 7 am on Tuesday (March 7). This is the same jatka with 4 zigza (150 kg) fish and 4,000 meters of nets seized.
Incidentally, the government has banned all kinds of fishing in the Meghna river from Shatanal in Chandpur to Ramgati in Lakshmipur for two months in March-April to protect jatka and produce hilsa.
