twelfth Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali presented the first budget of the National Parliament and started raising the proposed budget of Tk 7 lakh 97 thousand crore for the financial year 2024-25 in the Parliament on Thursday (June 6).
This is the 53rd budget of the country, the 25th of the Awami League government and Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali as Finance Minister.
The budget announced today in the country's history is 7 lakh 96 thousand 900 crores, the size of the budget proposed in the national parliament titled ‘The commitment to build a happy, prosperous, developed and smart Bangladesh’, is 36 thousand crores more than the previous fiscal year (2023-24).
The size of the budget for the financial year 2024-25 is also decreasing. Compared to the budget of the current financial year, the deficit in the budget of the next financial year has been reduced to 5 thousand 785 crores. The grant budget has estimated the budget deficit of Tk 2 lakh 56 thousand crore. However, the overall deficit with grants will be Tk 2 lakh 51 thousand 600 crore. That is, the target of 4 thousand 400 crore rupees in the next financial year will be 4 thousand 400 crores.
The target of foreign loans to meet the deficit has been set at Tk 1 lakh 27 thousand 200 crore. Foreign debt will be paid Tk 36 thousand 500 crore which will generate a net foreign loan of Tk 90 thousand 700 crore.
Internal loans will be taken from Tk 1 lakh 60 thousand crore. Out of which 1 lakh 37 thousand 500 crores will be taken from the bank system, of which 72 thousand 682 crores long loan and 64 thousand 818 crore short loans.
In the 2024-25 fiscal year, the budget for repayment of loan interest has been estimated at Tk 113,500 crore, including Tk 93,000 crore, and the interest on foreign loans is Tk 20,500 crore.
The budget has set the target of revenue and 5 lakh 41 thousand crores, including the National Board of Revenue (NBR) target of Tk 4 lakh 80 thousand crore. Extra-NBR tax has been estimated at Tk 15,000 crore and the target of tax receipt is Tk 46 thousand crore.
