The chairman of the Union Parishad will not have to resign to participate in the upcoming upazila elections. They can contest the upazila elections from the position of the government.

Not resigning from the Union Parishad, the respective Returning Officers canceled their nomination papers. The appeals authorities also upheld the decision to cancel the decision, and later filed a petition in the High Court challenging the decision to cancel the nomination papers.
