In the hour-long meeting, the chief advisor and US Charge de Affatters discussed the relationship between neighboring countries with Bangladesh, the progress of solving the Rohingya crisis and the security situation in Meanmar.
Dr. ‘Sark was formed from this idea and we are the inventors of this organization,’ Yunus said. He shed light on the recent initiative to revive SAARC and transform it into a platform like the European Union.
The chief adviser discussed the ongoing reform activities in Bangladesh, efforts to form a political consensus on the Declaration of the July mass uprising and plans for the upcoming general elections.
The US Charge de Afaters expressed concern that some reports of the detention of journalists and violence against religious minorities, but the interim government is committed to ensure justice for all citizens, the chief adviser.
The chief adviser thanked the United States for providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya refugees and sought the support of the United States in the repatriation of the Rohingya from Bangladesh to a safer region in Myanmar's Rakhine State.
The chief adviser urged the United States to import more garments from Bangladesh, saying Bangladesh is the top importer of cotton in the United States, which will increase cotton exports if the United States picks up more garments from Bangladesh.
SDG Bishtak Sinita Secretary Lamita Morshed was present in the meeting.
