Char Lawrence and Char Martin Union Parishad (UP) of Kamalnagar Upazila of Laxmipur have been allotted symbols among the candidates.
On Saturday (October 15) at noon, Upazila Election Officer and Returning Officer Zakir Mahmud allotted symbols among the candidates for the election on October 31.
Char Lawrence has six candidates for the post of chairman in UP, among them AKM Nurul Amin Master Boat of Awami League, Mosharef Hossain Khokon of BNP, Islami Andolan Md. Mochleh Uddin Hatpakha, independent candidate Farida Ishmamin Ghosa, Mir Shibbir Ahmed Chashma and Abul Kashem Howladar have been given pineapple symbols.
In this union, symbols have been allocated among 35 candidates for the post of reserved women member and general member.
Five candidates have been appointed as Chelman in Char Martin Unit, among them Mohammad Yusuf Ali of Awami League (Mitha Bhai) Boat, BNP's Ali Ahmed Dhaner Sheesh, Jati Samajtantrik Dal Abdul Baten (Babul Munshi Tara, Islami Andolan Md. Muslim Uddin has given the motorcycle symbol to Hatpakha and independent candidate Jahangir Alam.
In this union, 10 reserved women membership posts and 37 candidates for the post of general member have been allocated symbols.
According to the sources of the Upazila Election Office and Returning Officer, the schedule of Char Lawrence and Charmartin Unity Parishad elections was announced on May 4 this year. May 9 was the last day to submit the nomination papers. May 20 was scheduled for the allotment of the symbol and the polling day was scheduled for May 6. But due to the complications of the election, the election commission was postponed for the election commission on October 11.
