cover: In view of the demand of BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front to postpone the elections, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said that the Election Commission has decided to postpone the schedule of the 11th National Assembly elections. He said, ‘We have decided to reschedule the schedule. The nomination papers will be submitted till November 28. Voting will be submitted on December 30.’
The CEC said this after the inauguration of the EVM Fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital on Monday (November 12).
In the schedule announced on November 8, the CEC knew that the election will be held on December 23. But after the indecision in the election, the national unity front with BNP held a press conference on Sunday (November 11) and said that they are going to the polls, but in this case they are demanding to postpone the vote by one month.
The CEC said, following the request of various political parties including the national united front, the election date has been changed to 30 December and the final date of filing the nomination papers has been changed to 28. According to the previous schedule, the submission of nomination papers was on November 19, selection was November 22 and the date of withdrawal of candidature was set for November 29.
EVM Melat Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam said, "No cow is bad in its curd, we will not say that EVM system is bad, so this fair is held for your opinion. We will use EVM in the 11th Jati's parliamentary elections based on your decision."
The opening session of the fair was attended by other election commissioners and senior officials of the EC. The Election Commission accepted the opinion of the incoming visitors.
