A gold merchant named Anwar Hossain (43) was shot by miscreants at the Banshri area of Rampura police station in the capital.
The incident took place in front of house number 20 on Bansree D Block 7 road around 10:30 pm on Sunday, later around 12 midnight He was rescued with bullet wounds and brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMH) Hospital.
The injured businessman lives in Banshri area, his home is in Begumganj Thana area of Noakhali district.
Mujibur Rahman of Alankar Jewelers, who was brought to the hospital, said that he stopped some motorcycles on his way home at night and tried to snatch gold and money from Anwar Hossain and when he stopped him, he was shot four rounds.
Later, the miscreants took 200 bhori gold and one lakh in cash from him, first rescued him and taken to a private hospital where he was brought to Dhaka Medical for advanced treatment, where he was undergoing treatment at the hospital's emergency department, the doctor said.
DMK Hospital police camp in-charge Inspector Farooq said a gold trader was brought to the hospital's emergency department with gunshot wounds and he was currently undergoing treatment at the hospital's emergency department.
In this regard, Rampura police station officer-in-charge (OC) Ataur Rahman Akand said, "The victim's shop is Banshri d block area. He returns home from the shop every day. Today, while going home from the shop, he was surrounded by robbers who came in three motorcycles. They also looted the gold ornaments from him and shot him and stabbed him.
He said the incident took place in front of the victim's house, the victim told us that the robbers had snatched about 200 gold ornaments from him.
In response to a question, he said, "No one has been arrested or identified yet, but we are already at the scene and we are collecting CCTV footage from the neighborhood, and the police are working to identify the robbers and arrest them quickly."
