At least 18 people have died in the Nath Delhi railway station on the way to Mahakumbhamela, India, and several others have been injured. The accident took place on Saturday (February 15) night.
According to various media reports, the Mahakumbh-bound train has started to arrive at the railway station. Many are unconscious.
According to NDTV, the emergency security personnel reached the spot and went to the hospital where three people died under treatment, four children and 11 women were left behind.
Officials know that the devotees were waiting to board the train to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. A chaotic situation was created on platforms 14 and 15 of the station around 8 pm. Then people started running to get on the train. At one stage, several passengers were pushed into the station and the railway station of the police station was reportedly being crushed by the railway station.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and wrote in a social media post that this incident at the Delhi Railway Station is a fatal one. I have a deepest condolence to those who have lost their loved ones. The administration is on the side of all the people affected by this incident.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnava said that the situation at the railway station has been under control where additional security forces have been deployed.
The Railway Minister said in the Ndhal railway station (NDLS) that the Delhi Police and RPF (Railway Police) have reached the spot, the injured are being taken to the hospital and special trains have been launched to reduce the crowd.
The Mahakumbha Mela has started on January 13 and will continue till February 26.
