The chief advisor of the interim government emphasized on creating a process so that the citizens of Bangladesh can vote freely and fairly in the election without any obstacle or threat. Muhammad Yunus.
He said this in a meeting with the founder of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Shootab, on the sidelines of the WEF's annual conference in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday (January 23).
Highlighting the background of the July uprising, the chief adviser said that in July last year, the students of Bangladesh took to the streets to demand the end of discrimination in government jobs.
He mentioned that the students of the movement have expressed their desires and dreams by drawing graffiti in the walls of Dhaka.
Dr. Yunus said, in the last 16 years, those who have become new voters in Bangladesh, have not had the opportunity to vote for their vote, which is very unfortunate.
Highlighting the reform agenda of the interim government, the chief adviser said that the people of the country do not know what kind of election they want. The government cannot organize elections.
He said the government is waiting for the election, but now the people of the country will have to decide how the process will be. Whether they will go to a small scale reform program or want a long-term reform.
The chief adviser said, ‘If people want quick reforms, then we are aiming to hold elections by the end of this year. And if they say no - we need a long-term reform, we will need another six months.’
