Abu Dhabi is set to launch the world's first flying taxi service by the end of 2025 through an agreement with US-based Archer Aviation. The initiative will create a fleet of Electric Vertical Take-Off-and-Landing (EVTOL) aircraft, which will be built in Abu Dhabi.
Under this plan, Archer's additional taxi ‘Midnight Craft’ will transport passengers among the ‘vertyports' made in various places in Abu Dhabi. This vehicle will be able to transport up to four passengers per flight. Verteport is a place or terminal where aircraft or aircraft can fly and land in a swift strait, which will reduce the journey to 80 percent.
‘Archur's goal is to change the urban transportation system. Our aim is to replace Gai's 60 to 90-minute journey into a safe, durable, less noisy and competitive cost-of-ground flight with a 10 to 20-minute journey,’ Archer's spokesman told the Independent, a British media outlet.’
Midnight Craft's security will be as high as commercial aircraft, making it 100 times less than a helicopter at cruising altitude.
Uber first popularized the idea of electric flying vehicles, which launched the technology at its Elevate Conference in 2016. Uber envisioned a future where customers would get a chance to ride taxis like a car.
