At least 40 people were injured in the police attack on the students who were protesting for quota reform and were being treated at the Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) hospital, and a few journalists and a police officer were among the injured.
When the clash took place on Wednesday (July 17) afternoon, they were brought to DMK Hospital. Among the injured, two people were shot - Afsana Jui (22) of the Department of Populations of Dhaka University and Abdul Hannan Masud (24) of the English Department.
The injured journalists are - Yamuna Television's senior reporter Bhaskar Bhaduri, time television video Janlist Ratan Majumdar, Kalbela newspaper Akram Hossain and Johnny Rahan, Alokit Pratidin Imran Hossain along with Alokita Pratidin. A few more.
SI Nazmuzzaman of Lalbagh police station said that Ibrahim Khali, in-charge (SI) in charge of Azimpur Faanji, was going to the rickshaw from gate number 1 of Eden College. On the way, the protestors were throwing it at the gate of Neelkhet Kotatar.
DMK Hospital Police Camp Incharge Md. Bachchu Mia said that at least 35 people injured from different areas including VC Chatwar, TSC, Shahbagh, Neelakshat of DU have come for treatment. Many of the injured have gone for treatment, and some of them are still under treatment.
