EB Correspondent:
Journalists working in Islamic University (EB) have formed a human chain to demand the withdrawal of the expulsion of Iqbal Monotar, the finance secretary of Comilla University Journalists Association, and ensure the practice of free journalism in the campus due to the publication of the news.
On Sunday (06 August) around 4 pm, the press club and journalists‘ association of Islami University jointly organized this human chain program at the ’Mrityunjti Mujib' mural square of the university.
Esmut EB Press Club President Abu Huraira, Vice President Rumi Noman, Office Secretary Munjurul Islam Nahid, Journalist Association President Shahedul Islam, Joint General Secretary Emanul Sohan and Office Secretary Tajmul Haque Jatim and other journalists were present.
The speakers at the human chain said that the vice-chancellor of Kubi has expelled Iqbal Monota from personal grudges. We strongly condemned it. We will not accept that Kubi will be corrupt and will be vindicting and will be taken for the sake of journalists and they will take such a demeaning action as they write it. We have taken up the pen in the past against corruption, we are holding on to the present and we will take up the pen in the future.
The former president of the teachers' association and the professor of Islamic history and culture department agreed with this movement of journalists. Emtaj Hossain said, "I am in solidarity with this logical demand of journalists.
Abu Huraira, president of Esmut Press Club, said that the Vice-Chancellor has done an unconstitutional work by expelling journalist Iqbal Monotar from the university, which is subject to anger due to anger because of the news of Gao's statement in favor of corruption. We believe that the work done by the Vice-Chancellor is rare in the history of Bangladesh. He has hindered the free writing of the media by doing this. We strongly condemned it. And I protested that the vice-chancellor of Kubi should apologize for this and soon the vice chancellor will return from his decision and return the order of Iqbal's expulsion and return the residency of the hall.
I would like to say that by next Friday If this expulsion order is not withdrawn, then I will raise such a movement from Saturday as if the vice-chancellor of Kubi will be forced to change his decision.
Before this, on July 31, the new admission of the marketing department of the university and the senior bidata ceremony was held by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AFM Abdul Moin made a controversial comment on the poison of corruption. He said, ‘Many people say that there is no development in the country due to corruption. But I will say the opposite. The country is improving because there is corruption in the country.’ The Vice-Chancellor's statement was highlighted in the news.
