The mobile court sentenced 9 fishermen to 1 month imprisonment for catching mother hilsa in the Meghna river of Ramgati in Lakshmipur in violation of the ban during the breeding season of hilsa.
On Sunday (October 1) at noon, Ramgati Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Mobile Court Executive Magistrate Azgar Ali sentenced each fisherman to 1 month in prison.
Those who were sentenced to prison are Md. Siraj, Md. Dulal, A. Motaleb, Noor Alam, Md. Helal, Rathan, Md. Ershad, Hanif and Ibrahim are residents of Ramgati area of Notakhali and Laxmipur.
Ramgati Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer. Kamal Uddin said that in the morning, the police, Coast Guard and Fisheries Department led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Azgar Ali conducted a raid in Chargarjarita area of Meghna river. 9 fishermen were arrested in violation of the law and 1 boat and 20 thousand meter current was destroyed by fire and 20000 meter of current.
