BDR Rebellion: The tainted chapter of history

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the three-day Rifles Week at the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters on February 24, 2009. Rifles Week was supposed to end on February 26 with a three-day colorful show.

DG was present on the north side of the Durbar Hall stage curtain. The rebels were saying to the handmic, ‘If there is anyone inside, come out.’ A soldier with a cup of his face entered the stage with his arms in his hand and shouted, ‘Is there anyone inside?’ Everyone came out.' At the same time, he shot two shots at the officials.

After that, the other officials came out on the screen, including the DG, and the officers came down the stage and put DG Shakeel in the round and shouted indecent language and asked them to stand on the single line. After that, they started killing each other, and the army officers and their families were killed, torture, hostage, looting and arson.

They took a peaceful stay at Dhanmondi and Neelkhet Moon at 11:00 A.D., Artillery Gun and armored vehicles were set up at various locations including Gate 1 and 5. The rebels fired at the army personnel from the headquarters gate and Gate No. 3.

When the Leaflet was released on the air force in an air force helicopter around 12:30 p.m., the rebels fired at the helicopter and said they had to come to the Pilkhana for discussion.

At around 1.30 am, the then chairman of Jubo League Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Whip Mirza Azam went in front of gate number 4 of Pilkhana with a white flag on behalf of the Prime Minister.

14-member BDR delegation led by DAD Tauhid was taken to the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna around 3:30 pm and they spoke to the Prime Minister there. In the meeting, the Prime Minister announced amnesty to the rebels and ordered to return to the barracks with arms surrendered.

But at 7 pm, the rebel jawans demanded that the Prime Minister's amnesty announcement be published in the form of a notification, in the evening, the bodies of the dead army officers were cut off on the ground after disconnecting the electricity connection of the Pilkhana.

February 26 Surrender

From the afternoon of February 26, the number of Pilkhanas BDRs started to decrease. Seeing the situation, the BDR Jons continued to move to different parts of the Pilkhana, and the rebels led by DAD Tauhid again said that the rebels were surrendering their arms.

On the night of 26th of February, they gave the keys to the keys to various important structures, including weapons and arsenals, to Home Minister Sahara Khatun, which ended the 33-hour rebellion when the police took the pillkhana and found several mass graves inside the Pilkhana on February 27.

According to the investigation report, the scheming was prepared for the rebellion in front of the court event.

It is known that on February 24, BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu spoke to his house. Later, Pintu went to their gate number 5.
