Habiganj Makalkandi Genocide Day has been observed in Baniachang.
The Pak army was targeting this day of Manasa Puja on August 18, 1971 by targeting the Pak forces indiscriminately killing, looting and setting fire to the villages of Hindu-dominated villages.
The Pak-invader forces attacked the innocent villagers in Makalkandi and the neighboring Kagapasha-Nazipur. Indiscriminate killings were carried out in the village of Makalkandi and hundreds of people were killed.
In memory of the martyrs of 1971, two memorials have been constructed in Makalkandi and Najipur villages of Kagapasha village number 6 of Banachong upazila.
Since the current government came to power, August 18 has been observed by the local upazila administration as Makalkandi Genocide Day.
Since the inception of the war of independence, the villagers celebrate the day every year.
On Thursday (August 18) on the occasion of Makalkandi Genocide Day, the martyrs paid their respects at the altar of martyrs Banitchong Upazila Parishad, Upazila Administration, Upazila Aomi League, Baniachong Thana Administration, Uniton Chhatra League, Sanitran Martyr family members and various social organizations have done it.
A discussion meeting was held at the initiative of Banitachong upazila administration.
