The Cabinet will give policy approval to the draft of the ‘Press Council (Amendment) Act 2022’ with the provision of fines for journalists.
This approval was given in the cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister on Monday.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anotarul Islam gave this information in a press briefing at the Secretariat.
He said, ‘The Cabinet has asked to exclude the amount of Tk 10 lakh in the draft law. The poison of keeping a specific amount of money as a fine should be canceled. The press council will determine the amount of the fine.’
