The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center has warned that continuous rains in Meghalaya/Assam in India may worsen the flood situation in Bangladesh.
Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Rangpur and Kurigram districts have been affected by floods. In total, about 3.5 million people have been affected by floods.
The Flood Forecasting Center says that in the next two days, 17 other districts in the northern and central parts of the country may be affected by floods because the flooding in the areas where the floods have increased and the water in the rivers has started to rise and the flood situation in Sylhet, Netrakona, Lalmonirhat, Sunamganj, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Kurigram may worsen.
The department is monitoring 109 rivers across the country, including 95 rivers rising.
”We are afraid that there will be rain in Sylhet, Sunagmanj area and tomorrow and tomorrow, as a result, we are afraid that the flood water in those areas will rise further,” said Mohammad Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, Executive Engineer of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center.
”As a result, some other districts in the northern region may be inundated. If this flood water comes down again, there is a risk of some districts in the central region being flooded.”
The districts where the floods are feared
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, as rain continues in India, it will come further from Kurigram, Sylhet and Sunamganj districts of the country.
As a result, there is a risk of flooding in Jamalpur, Bogra, Sherpur, Gaibandha, Manikganj, Lalmonirhat, Sirajganj, Tangail, Nilphamari and Pabna. Besides, there is a risk of flooding in Netrakona, Kishoreganj, Habiganj and Moulvibazar. If the flood waters come down, there is a risk of flooding in Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur etc.
