Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned in the face of massive protests.
The country's local media have known that he resigned on Monday.
Last Friday, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had announced the resignation of the Prime Minister to resolve the ongoing political crisis, while President Gotabata is the younger brother of Prime Minister Mahinda.
The Sri Lankan economic crisis started last April. The country, which is plagued by foreign debt, has declared itself an ‘economic bankruptcy’ and since then, the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Rajapaksa has been intensified.
Economists say that after independence in 1948, the country has never faced such an extreme economic crisis.
The prices of several products from daily food products to fuel, fertilizers in agriculture are out of reach.
