The Cabinet has given in-principle approval to an amendment proposal of the law with the provision of death penalty for rape, which will be implemented by the President's Ordinance on Tuesday, Law Minister Anisul Haque said.
He said, tomorrow (Tuesday) it will be issued in the form of an ordinance.that it will become law from tomorrow. It will be legal verification before it.
“Since the parliament session is not ongoing for the time being, the government has decided to issue the amended law as an ordinance,” he added.
The minister said that the existing law has the maximum sentence of rape in the existing law, which has now been sentenced to death or life imprisonment.
The amendment to the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Act was approved in the Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, which will bring amendments to the existing sections of the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Act.
