The upazila administration and fisheries department have arrested 21 fishermen in the operation conducted in the implementation of the 22-day ban on the conservation of mother hilsa in Meghna river in Tajumaddin upazila. After this, three fishing trawlers and nets were seized.<\/p>\n
On Saturday night, the operation was conducted in Meghna river adjacent to Mahishkhali fish ghat in the upazila. Tajumuddin Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. A team of upazila administration and fisheries department led by Bani Amin conducted the operation and caught fishing in the river.<\/p>\n
Later, the executive magistrate of the mobile court and upazila executive officer. Bani Amin sentenced 18 of the arrested fishermen to seven days without labor.<\/p>\n
The jailers who are sentenced are - Md. Shipon (32), Md. Sajib (19), Md. Kashem (33), Md. Fatsal (25), Md. Sohag (25), Noor Islam (25), Akbar (20), Md. Rashed (220), Monir (28), Md. Itub (28), Ibrahim Majhi (52), Md. Rafiq (40), Md. Sharif (28), Md. Hafiz (34), Md. Maqsud (48), Md. Shahadat (20), Md. Farooq (65) and Md. Kamal (62). These fishermen are said to be in different areas of Tajumaddin Upazila.<\/p>\n
It is known that during the breeding season of Ma hilsa, 22 days of banning hilsa is going on to ensure safe breeding of hilsa. At this time, hilsa harvesting, transportation, storage and sale is completely prohibited across the country. But a class of unscrupulous fishermen were hunting fish in the river in the dark of night.<\/p>\n
In this regard, Tajumuddin Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Bani Amin said, \"We are conducting regular operations to protect mother hilsa. Strict legal action will be taken against those who fish in the river in violation of the ban.
