After a tragic incident that happened in Banatul Meslemin Dakhil Madrasa in Shaistanagar area of Raipur Upazila of Laxmipur, eighth grader Mukta Madrasah has been forced to leave the madrasa due to daily harassment, threats and physical harassment.<\/p>\n

Mukta, the daughter of Monir Hossain of West Charpata village, was harassed every day on her way to the madrasa. One day two scoundrel mobile numbers were asked by blocking her way, she did not know why she would give me the mobile number.<\/p>\n

Sumaeta Akhter Mukta said, \u201cEvery day I am afraid. I could not even tell my parents. Now I don't have the courage to go out anymore.\u201d Mukta's father said, \u201cSoon after the incident, we informed the madrasa authorities and local public representatives. But they showed the matter as a \u2018small incident\u2019 and deprived us of our justice. We were told - \u2018Reconciliation\u2019. So legal action was not possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

I am also surprised to hear the details of the incident in Shaistanagar area, I was surprised to hear the incident. Some boys roam around and tease the students. The madrasa authorities are inactive. If anyone protests, they are in danger. I want such scoundrels to be punished under the law. \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI used to study here myself once. I had a friend who had to face a similar situation. No action was taken yet,\u201d said a former student of the madrasa.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have not yet received any written complaint. We will take action if there is a complaint,\u201d said Nizam Uddin Bhuya, officer-in-charge of Rakhpur police station.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Raipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Imran Khan said, \u201cThe surveillance will be increased in the madrasahs. But necessary action will be taken after knowing the details in detail.\u201d<\/p>\n

Advocate Monirul Islam Howladar, senior lawyer of Laxmipur district bar, said, \u201cIt is a punishable offense under the Child Abuse, Sexual Harassment and Digital Security Act. If the parents here are aware and if the administration takes impartial action, the criminals will be punished. But the local influencers often stand in the way of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to a BRAC survey, 64% school going girls in Bangladesh are harassed on the way to and from the educational institution.<\/p>\n

According to the Child Rights Forum, 1500+ teenage girls were harassed or sexually harassed in 2024, including 38% around educational institutions.<\/p>\n

This is the voice of thousands of girls who are constantly turning away from education for fear of losing their self-respect, society, administration and educational institutions\u2014all parties must be held accountable, not just the rule, but the exemplary punishment.<\/p>\n

It is the joint responsibility of the state and society to ensure that every student can go to school safely.
